Random tips on things to do and places to go in Brussels and beyond

Latin American eatery

El Vergel is an understated, popular eatery on rue de Trone 39, just behind the Square de Meeus. An excellent alternative to the many sandwich places in the neighborhood, El Vergel is a lively lunch location that offers quite an authentic selection of Latin American (Argentine / Brazilian / Chilean / Mexican) treats, albeit with some Cypriot influences (halloumi cheese, for instance) which reflect the multicultural origin of the restaurant’s manager.

The restaurant is open for (a hearty) breakfast and lunch (7:30 – 15:00h) but only from Monday to Friday (yet another good restaurant that is closed on weekends…). Especially recommended is the plate of the day, which is priced around EUR 10. Snack-sized meals are available for those who are less hungry, and for those who are in a hurry, take out and delivery are great options to consider.

Note: El Vergel in London is the sister restaurant and actually the original one (no pun intended, but the two restaurants are managed by two actual sisters).
