Where to shop on Sundays

A few shopping ideas for Sundays (not including December, when most shops are open):

Bookstores: Filigranes (Books in French, cafe, small English book section), Waterstone’s (English books), Cook & Book. All those shops have books, dvds, cds and also miscellaneous small gifts, which comes in quite handy for any last-minute birthday/special-occasion-gift shopping.

Food: There are many grocery stores open around town on Sundays. In the center, around the Bourse/Anspach 63 are the big Delhaize, the Chinese supermarket by it, and other smaller shops. In Saint Gilles, there is a Delhaize on Chaussée de Forest 30-36. Close to Saint Boniface, try the Delhaize on Chaussee d’Ixelles. If you are in the EU area, you have the Delhaize on place du Luxembourg / rue d’Arlon and another one close to Schuman on rue Froissart. There are also several ones open in Uccle (Vanderkindere 425, Ch. Saint Job and Place Emile Danco.) You can also check on the Delhaize website for other stores. You can also check for GB stores in your neighborhood and then click on the search results to see their opening hours. (I have the impression there are fewer GBs open on Sundays, but I still know of a few…)

Clothes: If you do not mind driving outside the city and you are really motivated to do some serious shopping, I would recommend going on a morning or afternoon trip to the Maasmechelen shopping outlet. It is open most Sundays of the year and has over 100 outlet shops so you can shop till you drop…

Other: Some shops around the Grand Place are also open on Sundays, mostly to cater to tourists’ needs (chocolates, souvenirs, but also some toy and clothes shops).

  1. The Delhaize in St Gille closes at noon on Sundays, I believe. But that could’ve changed in the meantime… Please check the Delhaize website for the right time. There is a Carrefour Express on Chee Waterloo … that is open on Sundays. Sorry, don’t have the exact address, but can be chkd on their website. 🙂
